The following is an unedited letter from touring golf pro, Scott Simpson (former U.S. Open Winner) to his coach Kip Putterbaugh (Aviara Golf Academy), regarding the 8board®

I have really enjoyed using the “8board®" for two main reasons. The first reason that this swing aid has helped me is it lets me feel the proper turn in the backswing while I am swinging the club. When I am using the “8board®" and I move my feet properly I make a good turn and get in my ideal top of the backswing position every time.

My problem for quite some time has been that as I make my backswing  I tend to stop turning with my body and then lift the club up with my arms. This is not the correct way to complete my backswing and results in my body raising. This lifting causes me to lose power because I am not getting properly coiled. It also causes me to lose consistency because what goes up must come down and I have to compensate to get the club swinging down the line at impact.

With the “8board" I am able to swing back and feel what it is like to make the correct backswing. I turn my hips properly and get my arms swinging back synchronized with the turning of my body and not lifting after my turn stops. My swing looks great on the video! I am able to get a fuller coil at the top of my backswing without my body raising. I am also able to swing back with the club staying on plane and not laying off to the left which is often a result of my arms lifting on the backswing.

The second reason I like the “8board" so much is that when I get off of it and hit balls I have a great feeling of  being grounded as I turn. My lifting often causes me to raise up onto my left toe at the top of the backswing and then I get too quickly up on my right toe on my downswing. Being twinkle-toes is not the most efficient way to swing. After swinging on the “8board" I am able to make a great turn (not lifting) with my body, and I turn on the inside of my feet without rising up on my toes.

It’s great to have a swing aid that you can use when you are swinging. I can use it in my room and also when I am out hitting balls. Some swing aids are used to get you in positions but may not help you when you are swinging the club and hitting balls. The “8 Board®" swing aid gets you in the right positions as you’re actually swinging and hitting which is invaluable far your muscle memory for when you’re on the course. I know the “8 Board" is fun and has helped me. I just wish all my future pro-am partners could get on one soon.
